Il Palagio di Panzano Torgentile IGT

A special red wine from the heart of Tuscany

The Torgentile IGT from the Il Palagio di Panzano winery is an atypical representative of red wines from the heart of Chianti Classico, the oldest wine-growing region in the world. This special red wine is made from Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. And although the grapes come from the Chianti Classico wine-growing region, the wine is not classified as "Chianti Classico DOCG". This is because it would have to be made from at least 80% Sangiovese grapes, the leading variety of Chianti Classico. However, at least half of the Torgentile is made from Merlot, with the rest being Sangiovese. According to the classification, it is therefore considered "non-typical" - hence the "IGT" classification on the label, i.e. marked with the geographical quality seal "Indicazione Geografica Tipica". The careful, manual harvesting of the grapes is particularly important for Il Palagio di Panzano. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for 24 months in 1,000 or 400-liter oak barrels. This is followed by a resting and maturing phase of at least six months in the bottle. Once opened, a colorful bouquet of berries flows into the nose, tickling the palate with mild tannins, delicate acidity and another colorful mix of berries... All in all, a powerful and expressive red wine from Tuscany.

Tuscany in its purest form: vineyards, red wine and olive oil - what more could you want...

The two "Panzanesi" Monia and Franco Piccini produce excellent red wines at their Il Palagio di Panzano winery: A quaffable Chianti Classico, which has been made from 100% Sangiovese grapes since the 2014 vintage, a noble Chianti Classico Riserva, with its unmistakable taste of dark berries and oak, and an excellent Gran Selezione with the resonant name "Le Bambole", which only made its way into the Il Palagio di Panzano range with the 2011 vintage. Il Palagio also produces the fresh and fruity Rosato, the simple but easy-to-drink Ignobile, the house wine so to speak, and the elegant Torgentile, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. In addition to wine, Monia's great passion is olive oil, which is made from the fruit of the 1,200 trees at the bottom of the Piccinis. Oh yes: "Panzanesi"? That means nothing other than that Monia and Franco, the owners of the winery, were both born and raised here in Panzano, the village to which Il Palagio belongs. A 15-minute walk through the vineyards takes you from the estate to the center of Panzano - the piazza. A perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and pasta in the evening while watching the hustle and bustle.

The Chianti Classico - home to top wines... and Panzano

Tuscany - and Chianti Classico in particular, of course - is famous for producing excellent red wines. But Panzano, which lies at the heart of this Italian wine region, has even more to offer: Namely, top wineries when it comes to wine production, all of which are certified organic to boot. Almost all of the region's wineries, which have joined together in the "Unione di Viticoltori d i Panzano", work sustainably or are certified organic. For this reason, Panzano has been celebrated in the international wine press for several years as the "organic wine region of Italy". The vineyards and olive groves on Il Palagio di Panzano have been cultivated organically since 2007. In 2013, they were also officially certified as an organic farm. Monia and Franco's vineyards extend over the famous Conca d'Oro, the golden valley, and the San Martino vineyard. Here, in this unique spot in Tuscany, in the middle of one of the oldest appellations in the world, the sun shines all day long on the Sangiovese and Merlot grapes of Il Palagio di Panzano. The special geographical location on the slopes of the shell-shaped basin provides the ideal climatic conditions for the Sangiovese vines. Merlot only grows in very small quantities on Il Palagio di Panzano.

Tuscany, a destination of longing: vacations in a medieval agriturismo

People from all over the world travel to Tuscany year after year to spend the vacation they have always dreamed of. And if you book one of the lovingly furnished rooms or spacious apartments at Monia and Franco's "Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano", you've hit the jackpot, so to speak. Because there is no better way to experience Tuscany: The medieval, typical Tuscan stone house in the middle of the vineyards is just a short walk from the town center. The agriturismo is located halfway between Florence and Siena and is also just a stone's throw from Greve in Chianti. And the best way to recover from the excursions is with a wine tasting with Monia or simply with a refreshing dip in the huge pool, which is located directly in front of the house in the middle of the vineyards.
