A special red with character

For a long time, "Il Torgentile" was a truly unique wine in the Il Palagio di Panzano range – a powerful, expressive red wine that's a bit out of the ordinary. Why? Quite simple: Unlike the Chianti Classico wines, which rely on 100% Sangiovese, the Torgentile is a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese. And because Merlot sets the tone here, it bears the IGT label – "Indicazione Geografica Tipica."

Even though Torgentile is no longer produced today, it remains memorable: with its berry aroma, fine tannins, elegant acidity, and long finish. The grapes were hand-picked, and the wine was allowed to mature for 24 months in large and small oak barrels, followed by at least another six months in the bottle. A red wine with depth—and a touch of rebellion.

Located in the heart of the Conca d'Oro – the golden valley near Panzano – lies the winery of Monia Piccini and her husband Franco. Both native Panzano residents, their love for the region is evident in every bottle. Today, the focus is entirely on Sangiovese – Merlot is no longer grown at Il Palagio di Panzano. And you can taste this commitment to authenticity in every wine.

Organic? Of course!

Monia and Franco converted to sustainable viticulture as early as 2007, and Il Palagio has been certified organic since 2013. It's no wonder that Panzano is now known as Italy's "organic district." The majority of the winemakers here practice organic farming—and at the highest standards.

In the current range of Il Palagio you will find the fruity Chianti Classico , the elegant Chianti Classico Riserva , the noble Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “Le Bambole”, and the fresh and fruity Rosato “Aldemara” .

The Ignobile is now part of the winery's history – but its spirit lives on in the consistent quality for which Il Palagio stands.
