Aldemara Rosato IGT from Il Palagio di Panzano

Freshness, color and fruit - a stunner!

For the first time with the 2017 vintage, Il Palagio di Panzano also has a rosato in its range. And what a rosato! What freshness! What a color! What fruit! The purest pleasure to drink this wine! But let's get to the facts: The Rosato Aldemara IGT is made from 100 percent Sangiovese. The grapes come from one of Il Palagio's southern vineyards in the Conca d'Oro. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand at the end of August or beginning of September and pressed immediately. The wine is vinified at a maximum temperature of 14°C in steel tanks, where it acquires its pale pink color. It remains there throughout the maturation process. In terms of flavor, the Aldemara alternates between sweet cherries and a melange of red berries. There is a hint of white flowers on top. And who knows, perhaps it was precisely these white flowers that Monia Piccini's grandmother Aldemara cut - after all, it is Monia's "nonna" who can be seen gardening on the Aldemara label. "The best way to keep the memory of my wonderful grandmother alive was to name such a cheerful wine after her!" says Monia Piccini, owner of Il Palagio di Panzano. As always with rosato: drink well chilled and preferably fresh.

Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano: a family business in Panzano in Chianti

A few years ago, Monia Piccini took over the Il Palagio di Panzano winery from her father. Her husband Franco actively supports her in the wine cellar and in the agriturismo with his craftsmanship. Monia and Franco are what you would call true Panzanese - not only do they live in Panzano, they were also born and raised here. Monia is also a woman with a strong character - with Sangiovese in her blood, so to speak. She knows exactly what she wants: and that is quality, quality and more quality. The basis for the best quality in the glass is, of course, the vineyards, which extend over outstanding locations in the famous Conca d'Oro, the golden valley of Panzano. The sun pampers the grapes all day long and, thanks to the altitude, they keep a cool head at night, even in the hot summer months. After all, it's not just us humans who like a bit of night-time cooling, but also the Sangiovese vines. Incidentally, they make up the lion's share of the grapes at Il Palagio. In addition to the Sangiovese, a small amount of Merlot also grows in the vineyards, which is needed for the Torgentile IGT.

Red wines with heart and brain - and fully organic!

Coming from Florence on the S 222, the Chiantigiana, in the direction of Siena, you come to Panzano in Chianti: first you go up the hill, then you reach the highest point of the village with the piazza. If you follow the road after the slight left-hand bend, you will come to the Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano where the road goes downhill again. When guests take a seat at the large tasting table, they can let their gaze wander over the entire Conca d'Oro. From up here, you can also see the winery itself, whose vineyards stretch across the golden shell. And then the guests are served the Chianti Classico, the Chianti Classico Riserva and Le Bambole, the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from Il Palagio, for tasting. The fruity, young Ignobile and the Merlot-Sangiovese-Cuvée Torgentile are also waiting to be enjoyed and purchased. And, of course, you can also try the fruity and spicy extra virgin olive oil here. What you can immediately taste in all the wines and products is the fact that Monia puts a lot of heart and soul into her wines, but also a good portion of brainpower. Incidentally, it goes without saying for Monia that the winery is organically farmed - the winery has been officially certified organic since the 2013 vintage. And you can just taste it...

Vacations at the agriturismo with a family connection...

In addition to the winery, Monia also runs an agriturismo on Il Palagio together with her husband Franco. With its many nooks and crannies, hidden spots and courtyards, its numerous terraces and its enchanted garden, the house is actually a small fairytale castle. It was built using typical Tuscan stone. And who knows, you might even come across the two princesses - the two daughters of the house - to whom the Gran Selezione, named "Le Bambole", is dedicated. The swimming pool alone, with its view over the Conca d'Oro, will make you fall in love with Il Palagio straight away. And then when the scent of jasmine, mixed with a hint of lemon, lavender and rosemary, drifts by, you have finally succumbed to the magic of Il Palagio. By the way: Florence and Siena are also just a stone's throw away from Il Palagio. The piazza of Panzano is just a short walk away, where you can treat yourself to dinner in one of the lovely little restaurants. Or you can simply let your gaze wander over the golden valley until sunset, open a good bottle of wine and enjoy life.
