In 1968, the entrepreneurial Manetti family acquired the Tenuta Fontodi winery directly in Panzano in Chianti. When Marco Manetti and his younger brother Giovanni took over the estate from their parents, Giovanni was just 16 years old. Despite everything, the two brothers began replanting the vineyards in Conca d'Oro with great enthusiasm. Since the early 1980s, Giovanni Manetti has run Tenuta Fontodi on his own, while his brother Marco has specialized in the production of terracotta.

With the Super Tuscan Flaccianello della Pieve, Giovanni not only laid the foundations for Fontodi's success, he can also be considered one of the pioneers who helped the Sangiovese grape to achieve its current status in Chianti Classico. And speaking of good taste: if you meet Signore Manetti in the vineyard or in the wine cellar, he is always perfectly styled - you can't just take off good taste like a coat in the checkroom...
