Petresco Toscana IGT from Le Cinciole

The top wine from the house of Le Cinciole

Le Cinciole is used to working at the highest level in every respect - and the Petresco Toscana IGT is without doubt the top wine of the house. The regional typicity and the character of each vintage are carried one hundred percent by the Sangiovese grape in Petresco. During the harvest, Luca and Valeria personally ensure that only the best grapes are used for Petresco. After spontaneous fermentation in cement tanks at a controlled temperature of no more than 28 degrees, the grapes are transferred to French oak barriques for malolactic fermentation. 18 months in the barrel and at least 12 months of maturation in the bottle result in a wine that will captivate even the most discerning wine connoisseur. With fine, silky tannins, harmonious aromas of game and sour cherries and a distinct mineral spiciness typical of Sangiovese. An absolute top wine with which Luca and Valeria demonstrate at the highest level what is possible when you respect nature and work in harmony with it.

Podere Le Cinciole: The organic winery in Panzano in Chianti

The Le Cinciole winery, which is located in the small village of Panzano south of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, has over 11 hectares of vineyards in a prime location at an average altitude of 450 meters. The vineyards face south-east, on the side of Panzano in Chianti facing the village of Greve. The soils here are made up of slate interspersed with clay, the so-called "Galestro", which is particularly suitable for growing Sangiovese. And this is very much in line with the aspirations of Valeria and Luca Orsini, the owners of Le Cinciole: they want to produce wines that reflect the terroir. The two winegrowers try to produce their wine in harmony with nature, the landscape and the traditions that have developed over many centuries. For this reason, the Orsinis also focus on the Sangiovese grape, the autochthonous grape variety of central Italy par excellence. And even with wines made from international grape varieties, it is important to them that the special terroir of Panzano is reflected in the wine.

The red wine with that certain "extra terroir"...

In keeping with the desire to express the terroir in the wines, almost exclusively Sangiovese is cultivated at Le Cinciole: First and foremost, of course, for the Chianti Classico, which is made entirely from Sangiovese. The Riserva with the name Aluigi is also one hundred percent Sangiovese. And the same applies to the top wine - the SuperTuscan - from Le Cinciole called Petresco: Solo Sangiovese! Rather unusually, the fruity, fresh Rosato is also made exclusively from the classic "Chianti grape". The international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, which are grown in smaller quantities at Le Cinciole, are used for the powerful Camalaione, for example. Cinciorosso, the "little brother" of Camalaione, contains 70% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 5% Merlot grapes. But all the wines have one thing in common: They are all 100 percent organic. And even the olive oil is "green": the fruity extra virgin olive oil, which is an integral part of every genuine Tuscan meal, is of course also organic.

Vacations with the organic pioneers in Tuscany

When Valeria and Luca Orsini bought Le Cinciole in 1991, they were genuine career changers as winegrowers. Over the years, they have invested a great deal of time, energy and money in renewing the vineyards. But one thing was clear to them from the outset: the cultivation had to be based on "organic principles". So the entire cultivation of the vineyards was converted to organic methods, a solar system supplies the estate and the wine cellar with electricity, all organic waste is composted in-house - to name just a few of the additional measures in the interests of sustainability. The winery has been certified organic since 2002 - with the aim of producing high-quality wines. The two apartments of the agriturismo are also located in the middle of the organic vineyards and olive groves. From the two apartments, which are suitable for four people each, you can enjoy a direct view of the old houses and towers of Panzano. The pool, which is surrounded by shady olive trees, invites you to dream and enjoy the view over the vineyards and forests - ideally with a glass of wine in your hand...
