The elegant wine with great fruit and spice

2013 saw a small "wine revolution" in Chianti Classico: the members of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico decided to add a third, new classification to the two existing classifications, Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva: The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. Cosimo Gericke, owner of Fattoria e Villa di Rignana, has decided to include this quality level in the range for the first time with the 2013 vintage. Only grapes of the Sangiovese variety from the "La Cantinetta" vineyard are used for the Gran Selezione, which is harvested by hand and brought to the cellar in small crates. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks for 21 days at a maximum temperature of 27°C. This is also where the malolactic fermentation takes place. Malolactic fermentation also takes place there. Maturation for 30 months in oak barrels - in barriques and tonneaux - and subsequent storage and maturation in the bottle allow an elegant, fruity, spicy and deep red wine to mature, which is ideal for long storage. With the 2015 vintage, this outstanding wine can also be stored even better in the 1.5-liter magnum bottle. Incidentally, the label of the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione also features the "Gallo Nero", the black cockerel, a quality seal indicating that it is a controlled wine from the Chianti Classico region.

The Conca d'Oro in Tuscany: the home of Chianti Classico

Right in the heart of Chianti Classico - just a stone's throw from Greve, Florence and Siena - is the Fattoria e Villa di Rignana in the so-called Conca d'Oro, in the golden valley. The dry red wines from the Fattoria di Rignana are highly recommended: the Chianti Classico and the Chianti Classico Riserva play the leading roles in the range alongside the youngest member of the range, the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The Rosato and the Bianco white wine made from 100% Sangiovese provide summery freshness in Italy's oldest wine-growing region. And the pure Merlot "Il Riccio", the Super Tuscan from Fattoria di Rignana, provides the necessary depth. The spicy extra virgin olive oil should not go unmentioned - an indispensable part of every Italian meal.

Panzano: wine from the "organic district of Italy"

Over the last few years, the small town of Panzano, which includes the Fattoria e Villa di Rignana, has become what the world press has dubbed "Italy's organic district". More than two decades ago, the winegrowers of this small village in the heart of Chianti Classico joined forces to form the "Unione di Viticoltori di Panzano". Their common goal was to cultivate their vineyards as sustainably and organically as possible. Today, more than 85% of the 500 hectares of vineyards follow this ecological principle. The Fattoria e Villa di Rignana estate, with around 14 hectares of vineyards and more than 1,000 olive trees, has also been certified organic since 2014.
