Story about Poggio al Sole Trittico Rosso di Toscana IGT find out?

Trittico Rosso Toscana IGT from Poggio al Sole

All good wine things come in threes...

We know this from the Italian flag, which is affectionately known as the "tricolor". And it is very similar with the Trittico Rosso Toscana IGT from Poggio al Sole. This is because - correctly guessed - three grape varieties are used: in addition to 70 percent Sangiovese, 15 percent Merlot and 15 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. This gives Trittico the best foundations for everything a typical Tuscan house wine needs: it is light and uncomplicated. It is quaffable and suitable for many occasions - whether with pizza or pasta. In other words: Trittico (almost) always goes well! However, this red wine is anything but ordinary - because in a certain way it always remains elegant and delights the palate with its pleasant fruitiness. The three grapes for the Trittico are harvested at the end of September. The fruit is then fermented in steel tanks for around two weeks. The wine then matures for around a year in used barriques and steel tanks before being bottled. All that remains to be said is: Salute!

Six red, one white and one pink - but all organic, please!

For Johannes Davaz, one thing is clear: you can only make good wines if you have good raw material - i.e. good grapes. And so it is that all the wines produced at Poggio al Sole have been certified organic since the 2016 vintage. In addition to the white Chiara, the Poggio al Sole range also includes the Rosato Primavera, a fruity, fresh, 100% Sangiovese wine. The main focus in Chianti Classico is of course on the red wines: In addition to the excellent Chianti Classico DOCG - consisting of 90 percent Sangiovese, five percent Canaiolo and five percent Merlot, Poggio al Sole also produces the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione called Casasilia. It is made from one hundred percent Sangiovese and is undoubtedly Poggio al Sole's top wine. One hundred percent Syrah grapes - that is the Syrah Toscana Rosso IGT. A real taste experience! One hundred percent Canaiolo grapes - that's the Trafiore, which means "between the flowers". The range is rounded off by the Seraselva. An international blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Poggio al Sole: 70 hectares of gentle, sunlit hills

The "Poggio al Sole" (pronounced "podscho al sole") vineyard, which translates as "hill in the sun", is located at the highest point of a sun-drenched elevation in the middle of the unique Chianti Classico landscape. Incidentally, this elevation can also be found on the labels of all the wines. However, this estate is actually a 70-hectare, gently undulating area between the towns of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and Greve in Chianti. Vines grow on 24 hectares - 14 hectares of Sangiovese alone. In addition to 1,500 olive trees, the hills of Poggio al Sole are also home to Canaiolo, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes. The Swiss couple Kathrin and Johannes Davaz bought the vineyard in 1990. Johannes Davaz is no stranger to wine technology - after all, he is an oenologist and agronomist and comes from a well-known winemaking family that has been producing internationally recognized and excellent wines in Switzerland since the early 1970s. Since the purchase in 1990, Kathrin and Johannes have continuously expanded, developed and modernized the winery: Vineyards have been added, the wine cellar has been expanded and modernized, a solar power system has been installed and an agriturismo is now also part of this typical Tuscan winery. In addition, the eldest of the winemaker couple's four sons, Valentino, now lives at Poggio al Sole with his family.

Vacations in Tuscany - Holidays with the Davaz family

Poggio al Sole is a real family business. And that's exactly what you feel when you spend your vacation here: it feels a bit like a second home! Holidaymakers can choose from four spacious vacation apartments and a lovingly furnished double room. High up on the "Poggio" - the hill - you can enjoy a fabulous view over the gently undulating vineyards, forests and valleys as far as the neighboring vineyard, Rignana and the Badia a Passignano Abbey. The view from the pool, which is located right next to the historic stone house in typical Tuscan style amidst the vineyards and olive trees, is also breathtaking. A dip in the cool water is the ideal refreshment after a trip to nearby Panzano in Chianti or after a sightseeing or shopping trip to Siena or Florence.
