Gagliole Biancolo Toscana IGT

The Biancolo Toscana IGT: a white wine from Chianti

In principle, there are many white wines: But not usually in the Chianti Classico wine-growing region. Here, its majesty is the red wine, primarily Sangiovese. But as Gagliole is already a very unusual winery in itself, it is also a little out of line in this respect. Two white wines are produced at Gagliole. One of these is the Biancolo Toscana IGT. A light, fruity white wine made from half Trebbiano and half Chardonnay grapes. Even the transparent bottle conveys a touch of lightness at first glance. The wine is vinified and matured in stainless steel tanks for a crisp nine months. The grapes for this fresh wine, which is rather unusual for the region, come from vines in Gagliole. All in all, a wine that goes well chilled (at around 10 degrees) with any cozy summer evening with friends - but can also be enjoyed in winter. A little tip: just heat it up a little more, it almost feels like summer...

Antico Podere Gagliole: Tuscany straight out of a picture book

In 1990, the Swiss couple Monika and Thomas Bär-Bettschart acquired the Antico Podere Gagliole winery in Castellina in Chianti. Monika had already fallen in love with the historic manor house and the surrounding countryside years earlier, and only then with her future husband. Initially, the couple leased the vineyards to other wineries. However, around ten years ago, they decided to produce wine at Gagliole again with the support of a professional team. In 2011, Thomas Bär also bought the La Valletta vineyard in Panzano in Chianti. As a result, Gagliole now has a total of 20 hectares of vineyards, all of which are cultivated sustainably.

Gagliole in Castellina and La Valletta in Panzano: the dynamic wine duo

Ten of Gagliole's 20 hectares of land are located on the cypress-lined hills directly surrounding the winery in Castellina. What immediately catches the eye of visitors to the winery are the terraced vineyards, which are mainly planted with vines, of course, but are interspersed with olive trees and decorated with numerous rose bushes. A further ten hectares of vineyards are located around the La Valletta estate in Panzano in Chianti. The vineyards here are located on the uppermost, north-western edge of the famous Conca d'Oro, which is known for its shell shape and the microclimate there, which is ideal for Sangiovese wine. The vines that grow up here on the edge of the golden valley range in age from two to forty-five years. By the way: La Valletta is also an excellent place to spend a vacation. In a beautifully renovated house, in lovingly furnished rooms, with a pool surrounded by fragrant rose bushes and an incomparable view over the golden valley... What more could you want? Well, a glass of Gagliole wine perhaps...

Red wine, white wine & olive oil: with Swiss precision, Tuscan tradition and lots of love

With an ideal blend of Swiss precision, Tuscan tradition and a lot of love, perfect red wines are produced at Gagliole: first and foremost, of course, the Chianti Classico called Rubiolo - consisting of 90 percent Sangiovese and ten percent Merlot. Then there is the Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT, which is made from half Sangiovese and half Merlot grapes. Another red in the range is the Gagliole Toscana IGT, all of whose grapes come from La Valletta in Panzano - namely 90 percent Sangiovese and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. A specialty among the red wines is certainly the Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT, the 100 percent Sangiovese from Panzano, which is produced using the "Vinificazione integrale" method - and only with grapes from the very best vintages. White wines are rather unusual for Chianti Classico - Gagliole has two of them on offer: Namely the light, fruity Biancolo on the one hand and the somewhat stronger Il Bianco on the other. The product range is rounded off by an excellent extra virgin olive oil, which is pressed in the company's own mill.
