Gagliole Il Bianco Toscana IGT

Il Bianco Toscana IGT: the powerful white with a fruity bouquet

If Gagliole's Biancolo is the little white brother, then Il Bianco is undoubtedly the big white brother of the two white wines produced at Gagliole under the sign of the compass and balance beam. Il Bianco Toscana IGT is undoubtedly the somewhat stronger of the two white wines. Il Bianco is matured in new French oak barriques, sur lies. This is followed by at least three months of bottle ageing in a climate-controlled cellar. The grape varieties used are Chardonnay, Malvasia and Procanico, which is a clone of the Trebbiano grape variety. The grapes from these vines, which are around 45 years old and all grow on the terraces around Gagliole in Castellina, are characterized by a particularly thick skin. Another peculiarity: these grapes ripen for an above-average length of time and are practically among the last of the harvest. The result is a wine with a fruity bouquet of great intensity and convincing finesse. Ideally, it should not be drunk quite as cold as other white wines: It should be at a pleasant 16 degrees - then it develops its full aroma. With this in mind: Salute!

Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina: Where the love of wine falls...

The history of Gagliole is a story full of love and passion: back in 994 AD, the son of the Lombard king Berengario gave what is now the Gagliole vineyard to his wife as a wedding present. At a young age, the Swiss Monika Bettschart, who spent her vacation here, first fell in love with this little corner of the world and then with her future husband Thomas. It was only after their marriage that the Bär-Bettschart family acquired the Antico Podere Gagliole vineyard in 1990. Initially, the vineyards were leased to other wineries. However, around ten years ago, the family decided to make wine at Gagliole again. In 2011, another vineyard was added to the family estate, namely La Valletta in Panzano in Chianti. Antico Podere Gagliole now owns 20 hectares of vineyards, all of which are sustainably cultivated. Monika's initial infatuation with Gagliole eventually turned into the whole family's love for the Chianti Classico region and, ultimately, a passion for the region's excellent wines.

Wines made with Italian passion and Swiss precision

Today, three generations of the Swiss family are involved in the business at Gagliole. And the range that has been developed over the last few years is impressive: Unusual for the red wine region of Chianti Classico are the two white wines in the Gagliole range: there is the light, fruity Biancolo on the one hand and the somewhat stronger Il Bianco on the other. And then, of course, there are the excellent red wines: Starting with the Chianti Classico Rubiolo, made from 90 percent Sangiovese grapes - ten percent Merlot is added to this. The Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is made from half Sangiovese and half Merlot grapes. The grapes for the Gagliole Toscana IGT - Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon - come from La Valletta in Panzano. A rarity among the red wines is the Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT - the bee. It is made from one hundred percent Sangiovese from Panzano, using the "Vinificazione integrale" method. Last but not least, Gagliole offers a wonderfully smooth extra virgin olive oil, which is pressed in the company's own mill.

20 hectares of vineyards in the heart of Chianti Classico

The historic Gagliole wine estate lies amidst gentle, cypress-lined hills. A total of twenty hectares of land belong to this winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Ten hectares directly surround the winery in Castellina itself. A further ten hectares are located just a few kilometers away in Panzano in Chianti. La Valletta is not only home to an extremely luxurious bed & breakfast, but is also home to a further ten hectares of the best vineyards on the upper edge of the famous "Golden Valley". The age of the vines growing up here ranges from two to forty-five years. As I said, La Valletta is also an excellent place to spend a vacation. In a beautifully renovated house, in lovingly furnished rooms, with a pool surrounded by fragrant rose bushes and an incomparable view over the golden valley... What more could you want? Well, a glass of Gagliole wine perhaps...
