Gagliole Gagliole Toscana IGT

A true "Panzanese" from the cellars of Gagliole

The Gagliole Toscana IGT is a true "Panzanese", as all the grapes for this red wine come from the vineyards of La Valletta in Panzano in Chianti. Here, in addition to a luxury bed & breakfast, there are ten hectares of vineyards belonging to the Gagliole winery. The famous Conca d'Oro, the golden valley, creates a special microclimate due to its shell shape and therefore ideal conditions for vines and grapes. A cuvée of 90 percent Sangiovese and ten percent Cabernet Sauvignon is used for the Gagliole Toscana IGT. After manual harvesting and pressing, the grapes are transferred to large oak barrels for alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation and maturation take place in special barriques called "Cult" from the Baron winery, two thirds of which are new barrels and one third used. The wine remains here for at least 14 months. This is followed by at least six months of bottle ageing. In outstanding years, the grapes are also vinified using the "vinification intégrale" method. All in all, the Gagliole is a very well-structured, balanced wine with dense, fine tannins. And it tastes best if you give it another four to six years' rest.

Antico Podere Gagliole: a jewel in the heart of Tuscany

The Gagliole wine estate is a real gem that unites the multifaceted beauty of Tuscany - from the first glance to the last sip, so to speak. The road, which is lined with the cypresses so typical of Tuscany, leads in gentle curves up to the estate, which sits enthroned above the vineyards, hidden between tall deciduous trees. At the rear of the property, behind a large wooden door, is the wine cellar, which is a real visual delight in itself. Gagliole, which was first mentioned in documents in 994 AD as a "wedding gift" in royal circles, has been owned by the Swiss Bär-Bettschart family since 1990. The couple actually bought the house because their wife Monika had fallen in love with this piece of land at a young age. It was only much later that the couple decided to try their hand at winegrowing themselves. The Bär-Bettscharts have been cultivating ten hectares of vines for around ten years with the support of a professional team. In 2011, another ten hectares of vineyards were added with the acquisition of the La Valletta winery in Panzano in Chianti. Gagliole now has a total of 20 hectares of vineyards, all of which are cultivated with sustainability in mind.

Red, white & green: At Gagliole, Italy's colors stand for good taste

The grape variety that naturally takes center stage in Chianti Classico wines is Sangiovese: With the Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT, Gagliole's range includes a one hundred percent top Sangiovese. The special thing about this red wine is the method of vinification: it is produced using the "Vinificazione integrale", which was originally developed in France - using only the grapes from the very best vintages. 90% Sangiovese grapes form the basis of the Chianti Classico called Rubiolo, to which ten percent Merlot is added, and the basis of the Gagliole Toscana IGT, all of whose grapes come from La Valletta in Panzano - including the ten percent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that round off the Gagliole. Half-and-half is the motto for Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT, half of which is made from Sangiovese and the other half from Merlot grapes. The Gagliole range also includes two white wines: The Biancolo impresses with its fruitiness, while the Il Bianco is the stronger of the two whites. The product range is rounded off by an excellent extra virgin olive oil - green gold, which is pressed in the company's own mill.

Gagliole and La Valletta: the best of Panzano and Castellina

Ten of the 20 hectares of vineyards belonging to the Gagliole winery are located directly on the vineyards in Castellina. The special thing about these vineyards is that they are terraced, with olive trees and roses growing between the vines. This method of cultivation has existed in Tuscany since the Middle Ages, which is why it is a protected monument. In addition, the arrangement of the terraces and alternating planting ensure a pleasant interplay between sun and shade for the vines and an ecological balance in the vineyard. A further ten hectares of vineyards are located around the La Valletta estate in Panzano in the famous Conca d'Oro, which is known for its ideal growing conditions due to its shell shape. The vineyards of La Valletta are located at the upper edge of the valley. The sun shines on the vines here all day long, while cooler winds provide a little cooling. By the way: La Valletta has been lovingly renovated and the beautiful rooms are rented out to holidaymakers. An absolute dream: the pool surrounded by fragrant rose bushes, from which you have an indescribable view of the golden valley.
