Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva from Gagliole

The Olio di Oliva Extra Vergine: cold-pressed with love in our own mill

Ten of Gagliole's 20 hectares of land are located on the cypress-lined hills immediately surrounding the winery in Castellina. Here, numerous olive trees grow alongside the vines on specially designed terraces. This method of cultivation, which was already common in Tuscany in the Middle Ages, not only looks spectacular, but the arrangement of the terraces and the special location ensure an interplay between sun and shade. And also for an ecological balance in the vineyard. The Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo olive varieties grow and thrive here. The green fruit is carefully harvested by hand in November and then pressed in the company's own state-of-the-art mill. The oil is then filtered and bottled. The result is a high-quality Olio di Oliva Extra Vergine, which incidentally has a very low fatty acid content - much lower than required by law. It should then be stored in the dark at a temperature of 10 - 15 degrees C - or, ideally, enjoyed as soon as possible!

Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina in Chianti: 20 hectares of pleasure in the heart of Chianti Classico

The historic Gagliole wine estate lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, surrounded by rolling hills lined with cypress trees. The winery was mentioned in documents as early as 994 AD, when the son of the Lombard king Berengario gave it to his wife as a wedding gift. The estate has been owned by the Swiss Bär-Bettschart family since 1990. Initially, the vineyards were leased to other wineries. Around ten years ago, however, the dream of making wine again on Gagliole became a reality. They even went one step further: in 2011, the family estate was expanded to include La Valletta in Panzano in Chianti - another winery with around ten hectares of vineyards. Antico Podere Gagliole now owns 20 hectares of vineyards, all of which are sustainably cultivated.

Top wines from one of the world's top wine regions

Today, three generations of the Bär-Bettschart family are involved in Gagliole and ensure that products of the highest quality are created under the symbols of the compass and balance beam: Biancolo and Il Bianco are the two white wines produced at Gagliole. The Biancolo is the light, fruity white wine, a faithful companion through every summer evening when well chilled. The Il Bianco, a cuvée made from the Chardonnay, Malvasia and Procanico grape varieties, has a little more substance and power. And then, of course, there are the excellent red wines: Starting with the Chianti Classico Rubiolo - here, ten percent Merlot is added to 90 percent Sangiovese. The Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is made from half Sangiovese and half Merlot grapes. The grapes for the Gagliole Toscana IGT - Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon - come from La Valletta in Panzano. The Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is a top red wine that does not need to shy away from international comparison. A "pure-bred" Sangiovese, for which the "Vinificazione integrale" is used. And of course not to be forgotten: Extra virgin olive oil, which is a must for any meal in Tuscany.

Pure Tuscany: vineyards and luxury bed & breakfast on La Valletta

A few years ago, the Bär-Bettschart family set up a luxury bed & breakfast on La Valletta in the "Conca d'Oro" of Panzano. Everything here has been planned and thought through down to the last detail for the guests. The aim is to make everyone's stay here an unforgettable experience. This is ensured first and foremost by the beautiful rooms, the well-kept grounds and this pool! Surrounded by blooming and fragrant rose bushes and a fantastic view over the Conca d'Oro. By the way: From the La Valletta estate, you can easily reach the village center of Panzano in Chianti with its small, charming restaurants and stores on foot, by bike or by car (approx. 1 km).
