Casaloste Inversus Toscana IGT

The Inversus: Or the inverted Chianti Classico...

The name of the Inversus IGT says it all: "invers" means the other way around. And the composition of the Inversus is exactly the reverse of that of Casaloste's Chianti Classico: 90 percent Merlot and ten percent Sangiovese are used for the Inversus. At the same time, the name has a deeper, more emotional meaning for Giovanni and Emilia, the owners of Casaloste. Their third child, Federico, was born with his organs on the other side of his body. His heart beats on the right side of his chest, for example, and the other organs are also exactly mirror-inverted in his body. "Situs inversus" is the medical term for this peculiarity, with which Federico lives a healthy and lively life. But it is precisely for this reason that Federico's fingerprint can be found on the Inversus label. The wine itself is just as special as Federico: After vinification of the grapes in steel tanks, the wine is aged for 16 months in new and used oak barrels. It is then bottled and allowed to rest and mature once more. The Inversus is a new interpretation of the Chianti Classico terroir, which is naturally characterized by the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety, but where the Merlot grapes have also found a good area to show their advantages.

Organic wines and organic products of the highest quality

Everything that grows and thrives at Casaloste is organic: from the grapes to the olives to the mulberries on the tree in front of the tasting room. Here you can taste and, of course, buy the first-class organic wines with a view of the wine barrels: Absolute "numero uno" is of course the Chianti Classico, followed by the Chianti Classico Riserva, which consists of 95 percent grapes from the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety. In addition, two different Gran Seleziones at Casaloste delight the palates of connoisseurs: there is the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Casaloste", which is made from 100 percent Sangiovese from different vineyards. The grapes for the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Don Vincenzo" come from a single vineyard. All in all, Casaloste's red wines have a style all of their own - they are denser, fuller and warmer than other wines. And speaking of style: Casaloste's cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil is a must for a proper Tuscan meal.

The Fattoria Casaloste: On the banks of the Greve in Panzano in Chianti

Once you leave the main road, a narrow road surrounded by low stone walls winds its way through the hills. And then you are already in front of it: Fattoria Casaloste. The vines grow here on ten and a half hectares of land, with another two hectares of olive trees. Casaloste owns a total of 19 hectares of land. Giovanni d'Orsi and his family came to Panzano in Chianti from his home town of Naples in 1992. And why? Quite simply because Emilia and he had fallen in love with a vineyard in Panzano in the heart of Chianti Classico. More specifically, the small Casaloste vineyard, which they bought without further ado. They lovingly renovated the little house on it into a little gem. And Giovanni - a trained agronomist and oenologist - set to work in the vineyards with the same energy. His aim was to produce organic wines that would not deny their Tuscan roots and at the same time have the potential to become top wines.

Fattoria Casaloste: The organic jewel in Panzano in Chianti

In 1994, Casaloste was the first officially certified organic winery in Panzano - and thus a pioneer for the "Panzano organic district" proclaimed by the world press. Naturally, Fattoria Casaloste is also a member of the Unione di Viticoltori di Panzano, which is also committed to the principles of organic cultivation of the Panzano hills. In plain language, this means that there are no chemical sprays at Casaloste and the energy required for the cellar, mountain and agriturismo is generated by solar panels. Speaking of the agriturismo: Emilia and Giovanni have also lovingly restored two apartments within the stone walls of Casaloste. Here you can now enjoy your organic vacation by every trick in the book: With a glass of red wine by the pool shaded by olive trees or would you prefer a wine tasting in the tasting room with a view of the maturing wines? You are spoiled for choice...
