The Chianti Classico Casaloste DOCG: Organic, organic, fantastic!

The organic concept is a top priority at Casaloste: and so it goes without saying that the Chianti Classico, which makes up the lion's share of the range, is also certified as an organic wine. At the same time, the Chianti Classico from Fattoria Casaloste is a true Tuscan red wine: 90 percent Sangiovese provides the special taste and minerality that is so typical of this indigenous grape variety. A proportion of ten percent Merlot grapes rounds off the spirited Sangiovese grape and gives the wine warmth and smoothness. After being carefully harvested by hand, the grapes are placed in steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. The young wine is then transferred to 250 to 350 liter French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. The Chianti Classico remains there for just under 12 months before being bottled. If you have the pleasure of opening a bottle of Chianti Classico from Casaloste, your nose will be tickled by a bouquet of forest fruits and wild berries. On the palate, the long and elegant tannins reveal themselves in the most beautiful and pleasant way. A little tip: always have more than one bottle at home...

From Panzano in Chianti to the Greve Valley

The Fattoria Casaloste is located at a slightly lower point in the middle of the hills of Panzano in Chianti. The vineyards of the winery stretch along the Greve Valley. The owner of Casaloste is Giovanni Battista d'Orsi, a trained agronomist and oenologist. Together with his wife Emilia, he runs Fattoria Casaloste according to organic principles. The two are originally from Naples. But during a visit to Chianti Classico, they discovered Casaloste and fell head over heels in love with this little corner of the world. Long story short: they bought the vineyard, moved their home to Panzano and have since poured all their passion into making wine. Casaloste owns a total of 19 hectares of land, of which around 10.5 hectares are planted with vines and two hectares with olive trees. The result: around 60,000 bottles of wine are produced here every year.

Fattoria Casaloste: The small winery with the great wines...

"La piccola fattoria dei grandi vini" - the small winery with the great wines - is how Fattoria Casaloste describes itself in a nutshell. And quite rightly so. In addition to the perennial favorite, the Chianti Classico, there are wines from organic production that achieve excellent ratings in international wine rankings. For example, the Chianti Classico Riserva, which is made from 95 percent Sangiovese and five percent Merlot and other varieties, makes wine lovers' hearts beat faster. Casaloste also has two different Gran Selezione wines - both 100% Sangiovese: One is the Gran Selezione "Don Vincenzo" - named after Giovanni d'Orsi's late father - for which the grapes come from a single vineyard. And only since the 2011 vintage has there been the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Casaloste", which is produced from grapes from different vineyards. With Inversus Toscana IGT, the name says it all. 90 percent Merlot and ten percent Sangiovese are used for it - making it the exact opposite of Chianti Classico.

Vino, olio & vacation: all organic and with "molto amore"...

From the very first second, the two Neapolitans Emilia and Giovanni were sure of one thing: Fattoria Casaloste should be cultivated according to organic principles. And so it was that Casaloste became the first officially certified organic wine estate in Panzano and thus one of the pioneers of the "organic district" in and around Panzano in Chianti proclaimed by the international wine press. And speaking of organic: Casaloste's cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil is of course also 100% organic, and the hospitality at Casaloste is typically "Napoli", with lots of warmth and love: Two small, lovingly furnished apartments and the pool surrounded by olive trees invite guests to spend their vacation at Casaloste in Panzano in Chianti.
