Story about Casaloste Don Vincenzo Toscana Rosso IGT find out?

Don Vincenzo Toscano Rosso IGT from Fattoria Casaloste

Connoisseurs and lovers of Fattoria Casaloste wines will perhaps know that two Gran Selezione have been vying for the favor of the palate in the winery's range for several years. On the one hand there is the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Casaloste" and on the other there is the Gran Selezione with the illustrious name Don Vincenzo. Or rather: Gab. This is because Giovanni d'Orsi, owner of Fattoria Casaloste, decided to classify Don Vincenzo as an IGT with the 2015 vintage. However, nothing has changed in terms of content and production method: 100 percent Sangiovese grapes from a special west-facing vineyard. The grapes themselves: Hand-picked and vinified in steel tanks. They undergo the fermentation process, which lasts 18 to 24 months, in French oak barrels. They are then left to rest and mature in the bottle for a further year. Even as an IGT, the personality of the wine lives up to its great name: it is named after Don Vincenzo, the late father of Giovanni d'Orsi. And even as an IGT, the Don Vincenzo still tastes great: its low acidity, its perfectly balanced, velvety tannins and its long, long, long finish... Everything as it should be.

Fattoria Casaloste: Organic wines of the highest quality

In addition to Don Vincenzo - which is available as a Gran Selezione from previous vintages as well as the current IGT version from the 2015 vintage - there is also a second Gran Selezione from Casaloste: The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Casaloste", which is also produced from 100 percent Sangiovese grapes, albeit from different vineyards. Chianti Classico itself accounts for the majority of wine production. The 90 percent Sangiovese content is rounded off with ten percent Merlot. Casaloste's Chianti Classico Riserva has an even higher proportion of Sangiovese: 95 percent Sangiovese and five percent Merlot - sometimes mixed with other varieties - that's it. The mixing ratio of the Inversus Toscana IGT is exactly the other way around, i.e. inverse. Hence the name and the very special taste experience: 90 percent Merlot and ten percent Sangiovese are used. But as different as the d'Orsis wines are, they all have one thing in common: they are all certified organic - and have been since 1994! Casaloste was the first organic winery in Panzano to be officially certified by the ICEA (Istituto per la Certificazione Etica ed Ambientale)! And Emilia and Giovanni are particularly proud of this!

The uncrowned queen of Casaloste: Her Majesty the Sangiovese

The Casaloste winery owns a total of around 19 hectares of land. The vines grow and thrive on an area of ten and a half hectares. Compared to many other wineries in and around Panzano in Chianti, the vines at Casaloste, which lies on the road between Panzano and Greve in Chianti, are found in somewhat lower locations. With a share of around 85 percent, the uncrowned queen - the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety - is undoubtedly the center of attention at Casaloste. There are also small proportions of Merlot, Ancelotta and Canaiolo on the vineyards. In total, only around 60,000 bottles of wine are bottled at Casaloste each year, but they are quite something. The wines from Casaloste are repeatedly awarded the best ratings in the international wine press and receive excellent reviews from numerous experts from all over the world. And how could it be otherwise? Of course, numerous olive trees also grow here on an area of around two hectares, from whose fruit a delicious olive oil is pressed. And of course, the company's own extra virgin olive oil is also 100% organic.
