Story about Rocca di Montegrossi Geremia Toscana Rosso IGT find out?

Rocca di Montegrossi Geremia Toscana Rosso IGT

A true Supertuscan with aristocratic roots

Geremia Toscana Rosso IGT is a true Supertuscan in the Montegrossi family of wines. And family is particularly important in connection with this wine: Geremia was the founder of the noble Ricasoli family, from which the owner of Rocca di Montegrossi, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi, also comes. This special wine is made exclusively from international grape varieties: it usually consists of two thirds Merlot and one third Cabernet Sauvignon - in slightly different proportions depending on the vintage. Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi thus provides clear proof that in the heart of Chianti Classico - after all, the oldest wine-growing region in the world - foreign varieties also feel very much at home and produce wines of the highest quality. Of course, the focus is always on expressing the special terroir of Monti in Chianti. After careful manual harvesting, the grapes are fermented in steel and cement tanks for around twenty days at a controlled temperature of around 26 degrees. This is followed by 28 months of ageing in new and used barriques and tonneaux made from Allier oak and at least 18 months of bottle ageing. What meets the nose and palate after opening a bottle is an intense, dark berry, spicy, mineral wine with a Bordeaux structure and Tuscan aroma. Around 15,000 bottles of this Supertuscan are bottled each year - including in magnum and now double magnum format. A must for all lovers of Italian red wines!

Between Florence and Siena: a winery with history

Monti in Chianti is certainly one of the very special places for viticulture in Chianti Classico, the appellation between Florence and Siena in the heart of Tuscany. There is plenty of evidence of thousands of years of history here and even today there are numerous renowned wineries in the immediate vicinity. These include the organically certified Rocca di Montegrossi winery. And there is also a great story behind this winery: the owner of the estate, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi, is a scion of the noble Ricasoli family, the family that invented the "recipe" for Chianti Classico and thus significantly shaped the history of viticulture in Tuscany. The family is still based in the Castello di Brolio in Gaiole in Chianti - in the immediate vicinity of Rocca di Montegrossi. This fact alone means that Marco has very close ties with his land, the Rocca di Montegrossi vineyard.

Monti in Chianti: the best place for red wine in Tuscany

The close bond between Marco and his 100 hectares of land is exemplified by the name of the super Tuscan in the range: Geremia - the name of the wine - was the first of the Ricasoli family to settle in Chianti. 20 hectares are used as vineyards at Rocca di Montegrossi. The Rocca di Montegrossi vineyards, all of which are situated in a gently undulating, south-south-easterly position, are located at an altitude of between 340 and 510 meters above sea level. Sangiovese - the leading variety of Chianti Classico - is cultivated on an area of 13 hectares. However, the indigenous grape varieties Canaiolo, Colorino, Pugnitello and Malvasia Bianco di Toscana can also be found here. The international grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon make up only a small proportion of the vineyards. The winery has been officially certified as an organic winery since 2010. Sustainability is also a major issue in other respects: rainwater is used as process water and solar panels are used to generate electricity for the estate's own needs.

A colorful range of wines: from ruby red to amber to flamingo pink

Chianti Classico certainly plays the leading role in the Rocca di Montegrossi range. The Vigneto San Marcellino Chianti Classico Gran Selezione expresses the elegance and complexity of old vines. International is the Geremia, a SuperTuscan made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite everything, it wonderfully expresses the diversity of the Monti in Chianti terroir. Not to be forgotten: the fruity, fresh Rosato, a companion for balmy summer days and nights. The flagship of Rocca di Montegrossi, however, is the delicious Vin Santo, of an outstanding quality that is rarely found. No wonder, as the production process for this treasure spans more than six years.
