Story about Rocca di Montegrossi Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva find out?
Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva DOP del Chianti Classico from Rocca di Montegrossi
Green gold in bottles
Around 1,000 olive trees grow and thrive on the best slopes in the olive groves of Rocca di Montegrossi. Almost exclusively the Coreggiolo variety can be found on the 20 hectares of cultivated land - with a few Moraiolo trees in between. Traditionally, the olive trees grow in a mixed culture with fruit trees. After being harvested by hand, the olives are cold-pressed. After careful filtration, the oil is bottled. Around 2,000 liters of the green gold are produced in this way every year. The aroma of Rocca di Montegrossi's olive oil is reminiscent of young artichokes, green apples and green tomatoes, but also of bananas - at times even the delicate scent of grass. The taste of Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva DOP del Chianti Classico is velvety and delicately bitter, with a very spicy to sharp finish. A wonderful base for any typical Tuscan meal.
Rocca di Montegrossi: red wine from the Chianti Classico with noble roots
About seven kilometers south of Gaiole in Chianti lies the small village of Monti in Chianti, at the heart of the oldest wine-growing region in the world. Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi runs the Rocca di Montegrossi winery right here, in the heart of "historic" Chianti. Marco comes from the oldest noble family in Tuscany, which is considered the "inventor" of Chianti and the "Chianti formula". The family is still based in the Castello di Brolio - in the immediate vicinity of the Rocca di Montegrossi winery. Not least for this reason, Marco feels a strong connection to the Chianti region - and in particular, of course, to the village of Monti with its rolling hills - the wine tradition of Chianti Classico and the culture of the region. He loves how he lives and where he lives.
Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi: A family with tradition - a winery with innovation
The Ricasoli family can look back on a long winemaking tradition. Today, Marco produces excellent red wines and a Vin Santo - wines that have all been highly praised by the international wine press - at the winery, which has been organically managed and certified for several years. The terroir, i.e. the combination of soil and microclimate, offers excellent conditions for the Sangiovese and all other grape varieties that grow in the vineyards. Around 20 hectares of the 100-hectare estate are planted with vines. The autochthonous grape varieties Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Pugnitello can be found as well as the international grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. A white wine variety, Malvasia Bianco di Toscana, also grows here. It is used for the unique Vin Santo.
Great red wines, sweet Vin Santo, fruity Rosato and spicy Olio
Marco's strong connection to his land and its history can also be felt in his wines: In addition to the Vigneto San Marcellino Chianti Classico Gran Selezione - the grapes for which grow in the vineyard of the same name next to the church - the range includes a powerful, elegant Chianti Classico, the noble, richly structured Super Tuscan called Geremia - a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon - and a fruity, tangy Rosato. The Vin Santo produced at Rocca di Montegrossi is outstanding: a true delicacy and treasure at the same time. And, of course, the fruity and spicy Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva olive oil, which is cold-pressed from the fruit of around 1,000 olive trees that grow on the estate.
