2013 Rossolino Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT from Monte Bernardi
Similar to Monte Bernardi's Tzingana, Rossolino is made primarily from international grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and some Colorino (autochthonous Tuscan grape variety). The vines are between 5 and 7 years old and will be used for the production of Tzingana in about 10 years. Monte Bernardi is a family winery owned by the Schmelzer family in Panzano in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, between Florence and Siena. The Rossolino is vinified in a special way: all the grapes are fermented and matured together rather than being vinified separately. As a result, this red wine from Italy has a different aroma and flavor than the typical Chianti Classico wines, which are primarily made from Sangiovese. The philosophy and conviction of the Schmelzer family is the biodynamic (according to Rudolf Steiner) cultivation of the Monte Bernardi vineyard.
Harvest & vinification
Monte Bernardi's Rossolino is the "little Tzingana", which is why the vinification method is based on that of the Tzingana - joint vinification of all grape varieties, i.e. not single-varietal vinification. Alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks, at max. 30° C, for 20 - 27 days, malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. Maturation of 18 months in used wooden barrels
