Good, better, Fontissimo!

Fontissimo can actually be described in very few words: Good, better, Fontissimo! Because the name Fontissimo stands for the best that Fattoria Le Fonti has to offer. Or as they say among family members: "Papa's best". Because only the very best Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes are used for this super Tuscan. They are carefully harvested by hand - starting with Merlot and ending with Cabernet Sauvignon. Both fermentation and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks. Before the Fontissimo is placed in French oak barriques for 24 months, the cuvée is usually determined. This is because here at Le Fonti, the assemblage - i.e. the blending of several types of wine into one composition - takes place before the wines are transferred to oak. "This gives the wines more time to get used to each other," explains winemaker Vicky with a smile. After almost two years in the barrel, the wine impresses with its balance and ripe, dark fruit - with sometimes more, sometimes less cherries, currants and cassis. And the best thing about it: all these good qualities are also available in large sizes - as a 1.5-liter magnum and a 3-liter double magnum, both packed in beautiful wooden boxes.

Fattoria Le Fonti is a family winery in Panzano in Chianti, which Vicky Schmitt-Vitali has been running together with her husband Guido for several years. Here in the heart of the Chianti Classico, a wine region in Tuscany just 30 kilometers from Florence, Vicky and Guido put all their heart and soul into producing high-quality red wines. This is underlined not least by the numerous international awards they have received in recent years. Of course, this includes the typical red wines of the region - the Chianti Classico and the Chianti Classico Riserva, a new Chianti Classico Gran Selezione since the 2013 vintage, the quaffable house wine "La Lepre" - but Le Fonti's range also includes a fruity Rosato. And the Fontissimo towers above it all. And not forgetting the extra virgin olive oil. The purest pleasure!

Vineyards, olive groves and good taste in the Greve Valley

In addition to around 8.5 hectares of vineyards, in which the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety - the leading variety in the entire Chianti Classico - as well as the international Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties grow, there are also more than 1,500 olive trees on the Le Fonti estate. All these plants and their fruit benefit from the special microclimate that prevails here in the "Alta Valle della Greve", at the back of the "Conca d'Oro" - the golden valley. This is because it is a little cooler in this part of Panzano. This ensures that the grapes can stay on the vine longer, giving them more time to ripen and develop fine tannins. The organic certification of the vineyards makes a not insignificant contribution to the good taste and first-class quality of Le Fonti wines.
