UGA - Geographical Activities Unit
The members of the Chianti Classico Consortium decided to make an important change to the regulations in 2021. With the introduction of the Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive (UGA), the "additional geographical units", the DOCG Chianti Classico will be expanded to include eleven municipalities: Castellina, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Gaiole, Greve, Lamole, Montefioralle, Panzano, Radda, San Casciano, San Donato in Poggio (including Barberino Tavarnelle and Poggibonsi) and Vagliagli.
A unique atlas of Chianti Classico
Alessandro Masnaghetti has conceived, written and published the world's first book dedicated exclusively to the Chianti Classico area, its municipalities, its vineyards, its additional geographical units (UGA) and the style of the wines produced there. After fifteen years of intense and meticulous work, complemented by innovative geological research, an atlas with more than 140 maps has been created, with an unsurpassed level of detail and containing the vineyards of 394 wineries (some of which are not yet on the market).
Chianti Classico - more than just wine
The appendix contains a comprehensive dictionary of place names and wineries with an updated list of the Chianti Classico wines they produce and the UGAs in which they own vineyards. The book is rounded off with eight tourist itineraries that allow you to discover the most fascinating corners of Chianti Classico off the beaten track, as well as numerous tips on how and when best to enjoy this delicious wine, which is famous all over the world.
Mr. Map-Man
Alessandro Masnaghetti is a renowned publisher, author and cartographer who specializes in wine. He is known for his detailed wine maps depicting wine-growing regions, terroirs and wineries, which is why he is also known as "Map-Man". Masnaghetti has published several books and maps, including "Barolo MGA" and "Barbaresco MGA", which focus on the specific terroirs and microgeographies of these Italian wine regions. His works are considered valuable sources for wine lovers, experts and wine producers to deepen the understanding and knowledge of the wine-growing regions. Alessandro Masnaghetti's work has made an important contribution to the research and documentation of viticulture.
